About Virginia

about ginny

My name is Virginia but my friends call me Ginny or Gin. I created my blog Sweet & Savory Kitchen a little over a year ago. It started as a place to share my favourite recipes and has expanded into a collection of my food photography, menus, and entertaining ideas. For years cooking and baking has been my creative outlet. I find that when I am busy in the kitchen the rest of the world just fades away as I focus on the food that I am preparing.

I am a recent graduate of the French Culinary Institute in New York City. During my 6 months in the program I learned so many new things about cooking and honed my skills up to a professional level.

Many of my summers have been spent traveling through Europe. Seeing how important food is to different cultures has further spurred my love for all things culinary. It also afforded me great opportunities to practice my photography skills in beautiful settings.

Now a little about me…I am a chef with a dream to one day own a gourmet food store and small event catering company. A few of my favourite things are cinnamon and vanilla, cookbooks, salt water taffy, chocolate, going out dancing, pilates, and pretty much anything vintage.

About Virginia

about michaela

I am a nutritionist and have spent a substantial portion of my life educating myself and others on how to pursue healthy living and eating. It is my belief that if we focus on preventing health problems through nutrition, rather than treating symptoms, we would be a much healthier population. When I cook my priority is to make food taste good but if there is a way to cut fat, enhance color, increase fiber or protein or improve any nutritional value in a recipe; I will definitely do it. I think that if people know the benefits of eating a certain food they are more likely to add them into their diet.

I am the mother of two very high energy children ( Riley and Rachel). Riley my 5 year old is the pickiest eater I have ever encountered in my entire life and Rachel my 2 year old just craves healthy foods. I would like to share the food I make for my family as well as the people I love. My desire for the Sweet & Savory Kitchen blog is to inspire and educate others to incorporate healthy ingredients. I'd also like to highlight why certain ingredients are so good for you as well as how they can be prepared so that they can be deliciously enjoyed.
